Detail areas

Early pregnancy scan
Ultrasound scan in early (6 – 10 weeks) pregnancy The aim of this scan is to confirm the viability, determine the number of fetuses present and if the pregnancy is developing normally inside the uterus. Because of the deep position of the uterus in the maternal pelvis before the 8th week the scan must be carried out with an empty maternal bladder using a vaginal probe. From the 9th week it is usually possible, with a full maternal bladder, to perform the scan abdominally. The examination is not painful nor is it dangerous and does not increases the risk of miscarriage or harm to the fetus or mother.
Screening in the 3rd trimester
Fetal well-being scan at 30 – 32 gestational weeks Fetal well-being scan is usually carried out between 30-32 weeks, but it can be also performed later up to the term. Its main aim is to evaluate fetal growth, however there are other aspects which are examined at the same time.
Fetal echocardiography
Specialized fetal echocardiography The aim of specialized fetal echocardiography is to assess fetal heart in subtle details. This scan is usually performed at 20-23 weeks. In case of significantly increased risk of cardiac defects, fetal echocardiography is recommended even earlier, respectively at 12-14 and again at around 16 and 20 weeks. This examination involves measurements of the size of main outflow tract vessels and Doppler examination of the blood flow across the atrio-ventricular valves and aorta with pulmonary artery.
Screening for pre-eclampsia and fetal growth restriction
Screening for pre-eclampsia and fetal growth restriction in the first trimester The aim of screening for pre-eclampsia and fetal growth restriction is to assess the risk of the development of maternal pre-eclampsia and reduced fetal growth due to the placental insufficiency in the second half of pregnancy. This examination is carried out at 11-14 weeks and for our patients it is included in the Nuchal translucency scan in the 1st trimester . However if you haven’t had a Nuchal scan in the 1st trimester at our centre, you can book screening for pre-eclampsia and fetal growth restriction separately with us.
Multiple pregnancies
Ultrasound scans in multiple pregnancies Multiple pregnancies belong to the group of high-risk pregnancies, because they are connected with increased risk of miscarriage, preterm delivery and fetal growth restriction. Moreover, monochorionic multiple pregnancies are at increased risk of structural congenital defects and due to the shared placenta also the risk of development of a disease called twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) and twin-anaemia-polycythaemia-sequence (TAPS). There is also an increased risk of maternal complications such as pre-eclampsia, diabetes, anaemia and others
3D-4D scan
3D-4D scan During the 3D ultrasound we will show you the real appearance of your future baby. Moreover, during 4D ultrasound you can, in-time, observe its movements. Apart from 3D-4D scan we also assess fetal growth and anatomy. We are skilled in the care of complicated cases where additional 3D scanning allows us to perform more precise examinations of the brain, spine, skull, and other organs.
